Humans feels pretty sub-optimal for all roles, frontline characters prefers the extra evasion and hit over the energy and one skillpoint a human offers. I can't ever recall having had the problem that a melee character has runned out of energy (or even been close to). The energy and skillpoint loss is neglectible imo. I would chose the 4 more evasion a lizzardman offers any day as a front line (non-mage) character. Go with whichever one you like better thematically. Melee speed does not depend on race or class, only weapon respectively weapon type and to a limited degree on skill build up and gear. For example a Minotaur figher starting with his basic 15 str, 6+6=12 dex, 14+4=18 vit, basic 7 wisdom and some traits like Skilled+Head Hunter or Skilled+Fist Fighter is a real beast. It's far more beneficial to push their dexterity and vitality values for evasion, health and resists. Melee characters can gain both strength and damage a lot easier thru their skills then stat points. Applying stat points to strength (+2 str -> +1 dmg) is almost always nonsense. Lack in dexterity and thus evasion can be compensated with stat points right at the start. +1 skill point for the Human so it's very tiny. Their difference boils down to +1 stat point for the Lizardman vs. My human fighter from the main game got hit less and hit way more often than my Mino, so the increased damage that the Mino gives didn't seem that great.
